Perennials are those flowers that are hardy enough to survive the winter and return in the Spring.

In Northern Colorado a plant generally has to be hardy to USDA Zone 5 or lower in order to be a perennial.

Shrubs can loosely be classified as woody plants with multiple stems and a height less than 15-20 feet.

They can be used to fill a variety of functions in the landscape. For example, they can be used to provide a privacy hedge, to bring color or fragrance to the area or to provide food.
